About This Spot

Stepping up to Thai Koon in Amarillo feels like discovering a familiar secret nestled on a well-worn strip of South Western Street. It’s a place where the rhythm of the neighborhood hums quietly in the background, and the focus is unmistakably on the food and the simple joy of sharing it. The pace here is unhurried yet steady, a steady flow of both longtime regulars and passing travelers seeking a genuine taste beyond the usual.

Though the space leans toward casual and unpretentious, the heart of Thai Koon beats in its thoughtful flavors and comforting presence. The aromas of coconut milk simmering with curry spices mingle with the unmistakable allure of freshly made noodles, inviting you to pause and savor. Whether grabbing a meal through the friendly drive-thru window or picking up an order to enjoy at home, there’s a welcome ease in how the local team moves — quietly confident, attentive, and warmly familiar to those returning.

It’s the kind of spot where you might find yourself drawn to dishes like a rich yellow curry that holds memories of warm kitchens or the satisfying balance of sweet and sour notes in a crispy chicken special. These meals carry a steady authenticity, hinting at home-style care more than flash, and generous portions that stretch into leftovers, perfect for those slow Amarillo evenings.

Approaching Thai Koon invites a sensory moment — gentle spices, homely comfort, and the hum of a neighborhood gem doing exactly what it set out to do: offer a taste of Southeast Asia with kindness and consistency. It may not dazzle with frills, but it lingers kindly in your day, much like a practiced friend’s recommendation made simply because it feels right.

I ordered for pickup and the food was really good. Unfortunately, I ordered the cashew vegetables with added tofu, but when I got home I discovered there was no tofu in my meal. I checked the receipt and was charged an extra $4 for it. Double check your order before leaving.

Stopped here while driving through town, and the Thai food is fantastic! They are take out only after three according to the sign outside, and they were still cranking out orders through dinner time with stop in or at their drive through order pick up window. Paul was very friendly, and definitely knows his regulars!

We drive 20 minutes across Amarillo for this place. The service is extraordinary. Will definitely keep going here.

There is takeout only after 3. We submitted our order and took it home. Food was very good.

I recently had take out here to try something new in town. The staff was friendly and was able to get my order to me quickly. I had the Yellow Curry with Beef. At first when I started to eat it, I looked at the cup that it came in and notice it was an Allsups cup. At first I was skeptical but I ate and was delighted that the food was good. For the price that I paid, it was enough for two meals. I definitely have to give the benefit of the doubt to the place as perhaps they ran out of regular containers that the curry comes in due to supply chain issues and shortages. I would definitely eat here again and probably in person rather than take out.

Food was delicious. Staff was friendly. Portions huge and proportionate as far as veggies, meat, and noodle. Pictured is our left overs! Wow.

The food is amazing! I always get the Charlie's delight, and it's so good! I love the veggies! My husband says the pad Thai is the best in town. The service is snappy, and if you're not used to that, you probably won't like it here. Thankfully, my husband always orders for us. Ordering here can be intimidating, weirdly. Also, the inside dining is barely open, which is also inconvenient for when we want to come on date night. Other than that, great place!
